Make America Rake Again
03:19
|
|||
We’re gonna rake the forest and sweep the floor
Grab a broom at the hardware store
The fire is spreading and that ain’t all
The Caravan is coming and they’re climbing the walls
Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em right down to the seeds
‘Cause there ain’t no smoking when we’re raking leaves
The Big Train is rolling and it’s almost there
The Trump Train engineer is Smokey the Bear
Well the Fox News Team is fanning the flames
Everybody else is praying for rain
The Big Fire Chief has finally arrived
And he’s looking for Pleasure in Paradise
He’s talking ‘bout Pleasure in Paradise
Well, we’ll work by day and we’ll work by dark
Gonna rake up every National Park
Gonna make America Rake Again
Just keep your eyes on the Caravan
Gonna rake ‘em up and shake ‘em down
Gonna bleed ‘em dry and then leave town
So it’s into the fire from the frying pan
Just keep your eyes on the Caravan
Well the Fox News Team is fanning the flames
Everybody else is praying for rain
The Big Fire Chief has finally arrived
And he’s looking for Pleasure in Paradise
Some of us wondering what happened to his mind
Shoop, shoop, raking ‘em up
(repeat and fade out)

That Old Wooden Cross
03:05
|
|
||
Let my Faith be as sturdy as That Old Wooden Cross
When the ship I am sailing on is battered and tossed
When the winds of despair blow and all hope seems lost
Let my Faith be as sturdy as That Old Wooden Cross
Taunted with curses and beaten with fists
They tied Him to a post and scourged Him with whips
His friends and disciples had all disappeared
With Faith in the Father, alone He faced his fear
Let my Faith be as sturdy as That Old Wooden Cross
When the ship I am sailing on is battered and tossed
When the winds of despair blow and all hope seems lost
Let my Faith be as sturdy as That Old Wooden Cross
Mocked and derided and sentenced to death
They placed a crown of thorns upon His bloody head
Marched up a hill not far outside town
They nailed Him to a cross and stuck it in the ground
Let my Faith be as sturdy as That Old Wooden Cross
When the ship I am sailing on is battered and tossed
When the winds of despair blow and all hope seems lost
Let my Faith be as sturdy as That Old Wooden Cross

There’s a party, a political party
And it’s heart is black as coal
And It worships wealth and power
For it doesn’t have a soul
The members of this party
Wear the finest suits and clothes
And if they ever had a conscience
They lost it long ago
They have raised up corporations
High above the common folk
They have squandered our resources
While the country’s going broke
They have set the scales of justice
With false balances and weights
And retained their hold on power
Sowing strife and hate
Now they say God uses evil
To chastise when He must
So I guess Trump and McConnell
Is his way to punish us

The Good Old Days
02:59
|
|
||
Sitting on the front porch
Watching the cars go by
The hay is in the barn
And the clothes are on the line
The circus roustabouts
Have taken down the tent
Summer’s almost gone again
And I wonder where it went
Take me back to the good old days
And corner grocery stores
Hopscotch on the sidewalk
Linoleum on the floor
Swing sets in the backyard
Laughter in the air
When the world didn’t seem so crazy
And we didn’t have a care
Hula Hoops and scooters
Roller skates and bikes
Mass on Sunday morning
Disney Sunday night
Linda’s playing jumpin’ jacks
With cousin Terry Sue
Mom is in the kitchen
Dad’s watching the evening news
Buster Brown and Saddle Shoes
Would take you anywhere
You could get an Ice Cream sandwich
If you had a dime to spare

Don't Tell Me
02:38
|
|
||
Don’t tell me you love me if you don’t
Don’t make me believe, then crush my hopes
Before we go any further I need to know
You won’t tell me you love me if you don’t
The cruelest lie the world has ever heard
Is “I love you” when you don’t mean a single word
Before we go any further I need to know
You won’t tell me you love me if you don’t
It’s a sin to tell a lie
And everybody knows
The cruelest lie of all
Is "I love you" when you don’t
Don’t tell me you miss me if you don’t
Don’t say you’ll always be here if you won’t
Before we go any further I need to know
You won’t tell me you love me if you don’t

Let's Vote!
02:30
|
|
||
If you’re sick of Trump’s hate and fear
His bigotry, his lies and smears
Here’s how we make him disappear - Let’s Vote
Let’s Vote!
Let’s Vote!
On Election Day tell everyone you know Let’s Vote
Come November we got a chance
If we stick together and take a stance
Put on your shoes and your Big Girl pants- Let’s Vote
Let’s Vote! (Don’t be a dope)
Let’s Vote! (Don’t lose Hope)
On Election Day tell everyone you know Let’s Vote
Mitch McConnell and his pals in town
Are stealing everything that’s not nailed down
A Republican Congress full of nothing but bums
Let’s send ‘em all back where they come from
instrumental
Let’s Vote!
Let’s Vote!
On Election Day tell everyone you know Let’s Vote
On Election Day tell your Mom and Pop Let’s Vote
On Election Day tell the whole damn country Let’s Vote

Wasting Away
03:22
|
|||
His heart is bitter and whiskey stained
Where once there was love nothing remains
All he has left besides a bad name
Is the pride that he takes inflicting pain
Sing a sad song of a life lived in vain
Once full of promise now wasting away
His Momma remembers once in awhile
The heart full of joy he had as a child
And in her sad eyes she still sees his smile
Not the sneering looks or the heartless guile
Sing a sad song of a life lived in vain
Once full of promise now wasting away
Nobody knows where he went wrong
Nobody knows the reasons why
But something changed in him a long time ago
Now there’s nothing good left inside

The Imperceptible Change
03:12
|
|||
Maybe I was too close to you
Or you to close to me
Maybe we changed so slowly
There was no way we could see
Each day seemed the same as the last one
Differences seemed so small
We got so used to subtle changes
We didn’t see them at all
But If I could have time-lapse photographed us
Just a single change a day
The movie would have clearly captured
The Imperceptible Change
Maybe I grew apart from you
Or you apart from me
Somehow we started looking
At each other differently
Each day seemed the same as the last one
Disagreements seemed so small
We got so used to subtle changes
We didn’t see them at all
If I could have time-lapse photographed us
Just a single change a day
The movie would have clearly captured
The Imperceptible Change

Grampa's Suit
04:14
|
|||
I remember goin’ down to the farm when I was just a boy
Easter Sunday and Gramma taking pictures with her polaroid
And how Grampa Jake would fuss and moan when Gramma told him to put his suit on
He said clothes like that shouldn’t be seen anywhere much less on a farm
But Jake loved Gramma so he’d wear that suit for her
Though it didn’t really fit him it wasn’t in his nature to hurt
And you know that picture doesn’t do justice to Jake
And I guess he was right when he said
“Don’t judge a man by the clothes he wears or the picture he takes”
God, family and country and the good earth that he worked
Call ‘em simple values but he gave ‘em all he was worth
Gramma was his love and their children were his pride
And their children were his joy and it all showed in his eyes
‘Cause Jake loved Gramma and he’d wear that suit for her
Though it didn’t really fit him it wasn’t in his nature to hurt
And you know that picture doesn’t do justice to Jake
And I guess he was right when he said
“Don’t judge a man by the clothes he wears or the picture he takes”
Mama got a call one morning and I went with her to Gramma’s house
I didn’t know what dying was but I soon found out
We buried Jake on Friday and I cried to face the truth
And just as he would have wished it Grampa wore his suit
‘Cause Jake loved Gramma and he’d wear that suit for her
Though it didn’t really fit him it wasn’t in his nature to hurt
And you know that picture doesn’t do justice to Jake
And I guess he was right when he said
“Don’t judge a man by the clothes he wears or the picture he takes”

Let The Bells Ring Aloud

Let The Bells Ring Aloud
©Dan Sullivan 2018
When the storms of righteous anger
Flash across a purple sky
Let The Bells Ring Aloud from the steeple
When the flags of forlorn hope
Are finally lowered down
Let The Bells Ring Aloud for the people
Let the Bells ring aloud
Let people celebrate
Let voices rise in song
Above the dying voice of hate
When their children walk in freedom
Where men once walked in chains
Let The Bells Ring Aloud for the people
When every Congressman is made
To account for every lie
Let The Bells Ring Aloud from the steeple
And when the President confesses
To each and every crime
Let The Bells Ring Aloud for the people
Let The Bells Ring Aloud
Let the whole world celebrate
Let laughter ring again
Above the dying voice of hate
When the outcast and the homeless
Finally catch a break
Let The Bells Ring Aloud for the people
When the ghosts of corporate plunder
No longer write our laws
Let The Bells Ring Aloud from the steeple
When the noise of fearful hatred
Is finally given pause
Let The Bells Ring Aloud for the people
Let The Bells Ring Aloud
For the cast off and forsaken
For those denied a chance
And every heart awakened
When the dark clouds of despair
Are scattered to the wind
Let The Bells Ring Aloud from the steeple
Let The Bells Ring Aloud for the people

I Guess I'll Get Stoned
02:30
|
|||
There’s the sad smell of cheap perfume
Hanging in the air
A few ash trays of what’s left
Of whoever was here
Now he’s gone and I’m home
But it don’t feel like home
Keep on sleeping baby
I guess I’ll get stoned
Stoned, I’ll get stoned
Stoned as a body can be
Feeling all alone
I guess I’ll get stoned
The last few weeks or so
You ain’t had much to say
And when I’m talking to you
You look the other way
I should have known long before
You finally let me know
Now sure as Hell I can tell
I’m gonna get stoned
Stoned, I’ll get stoned
Stoned as a body can be
Feeling all alone
I guess I’ll get stoned
