I was thinking maybe I’d call you
But I wasn’t sure what to say
How long has it been since we talked on the phone
How long since we went our separate ways
(chorus)
Somedays are better than others
Oh! but nights, well they’re always blue
And sometimes when I’m all alone with my thoughts
I wonder if you miss me too
The hardest part for me is over
I’m getting used to being alone
But every now and then a careless thought creeps in
And I catch myself reaching for the phone
(chorus)
Somedays are better than others
Oh! but nights, well they’re always blue
And sometimes when I’m all alone with my thoughts
I wonder if you miss me too
And sometimes when I’m all alone with my thoughts
I wonder if you miss me too
I wonder if you miss me too

Friends like this
02:57
|
|||
There’s a honky-tonk outside of town
With a jukebox in the corner
And a man who comes in every night
With a pocketful of quarters
And he puts away a few beers
With Willie, Hank and Merle
And he talks to them as if they were
His best friends in the world
“That’s a good one,” he tells Willie
After “Yesterday’s Wine”
And when Hank comes on he tells him
Won’t you “Please make up your mind”
But no one bothers him at all
As he follows his bliss
And the sign outside says “Where else can
You find good friends like this”
Rosie’s at a corner table
She’s playing solitaire
When she used to dance at the Mermaid Lounge
There wasn’t an empty chair
Now none of her old lovers come by
To see her anymore
But she still flirts with all the men
Just like she did before
So shuffle the deck one more time
And play the cards you get
They say she’s over the hill
But Rosie doesn’t know it yet
And she don’t pay them any mind
As she follows her bliss
And the bartender says “Where else can
You find good friends like this”

Preachers and Politicians, inside the Temple
Cooking up smokescreens
They been the cause of trouble forever
They go together like fire and gasoline
Preachers and Politicians, we do the sowing
While all they do is reap
They lead us into gentle green pastures
Like wolves disguised as sheep
Preachers and Politicians, one of these days
When the Savior returns
He gonna sweep them out of the Temple
Build a bonfire and watch it burn
Preachers and Politicians, one of these days
When the Savior returns
He gonna sweep them out of the Temple
Build a bonfire and watch it burn

Old Vietnam Vet
02:51
|
|||
He’s just an old Vietnam vet
Says it don’t mean a thing
He’s just glad to see another day
And whatever it might bring
He wears a Vietnam Vet baseball cap
Everywhere he goes
And a piece of shrapnel in his back
From 50 years ago
He don’t talk much about those days
He keeps it all inside
He remembers coming home from war
And needing a place to hide
So he hid out in the open
And kept his mouth shut real tight
And fought his battles all alone
In his dreams late at night
So let him have his moment
He wears that cap with pride
The pride that long ago he was denied
And if you see him don’t begrudge him
Any peace he may have found
Just thank him for his service
There’s too few left around
He’s just an old Vietnam vet
Says it don’t mean a thing
He’s just glad to see another day
And whatever it might bring
He wears a Vietnam Vet baseball cap
Everywhere he goes
And a piece of shrapnel in his back
From 50 years ago
He’s just an old Vietnam Vet
From 50 years ago
He's just an old Vietnam Vet
If you see him say hello

The Sins of Baltimore
02:14
|
|||
In a Baltimore apartment
A slumlord comes to call
It’s time to collect the monthly rent
But when the rats run ‘cross the floor
He’s nowhere to be found
And no one seems to know just where he went
And the sins of Baltimore
Cannot be atoned
They can’t be swept aside
Forgotten or disowned
‘Til the agents of corruption
Are heard from Nevermore
Weep for your children
And the sins of Baltimore
In the rat infested hovels
Where men in suit and tie
Sip champagne that someone else pays for
They plot the fate of nations
While cursing humankind
And laughing at the folks of Baltimore
And the sins of Baltimore
Cannot be atoned
They can’t be swept aside
Forgotten or disowned
‘Til the agents of corruption
Are heard from Nevermore
Weep for your children
And the sins of Baltimore

The Samaritan's Purse
03:04
|
|||
In a jail cell down by the border
Carlos spent his last night
Sick with the flu when they jailed him
Alone when he fought his last fight
Somebody should have done something
For he was only a kid.
Somebody should have done something
Why is it nobody did?
Lucinda was one in a million
A blip on a government chart
Just a scared little girl at the border
Whose family the law tore apart
Somebody should have done something
For she was only a kid.
Somebody should have done something
Why is it nobody did?

In the beginning was God, and He was alone
With nothing to do or to see;
No one to talk to, nowhere to go
And nothing to watch on TV.
Pondering this in the darkness
A light went on in His head.
And he said to Himself, “Let there be light”
And it happened just like He said.
Then He conceived the whole universe
In six days - they say - more or less.
And He saw it was good, so the very next day
He said to Himself, “Let us rest.”
And He did as He said, and wouldn’t you know it
As soon as He turned his back,
Here comes the snake down from the tree
Walking and talking some smack.
Next thing you know all hell breaks loose
And out of the Garden we go;
With the Knowledge of Good and Evil
Our only guide on the road.
Things quickly went from bad to worse
And evil grew in mankind.
And God regretted both man and beast.
And man was back in a bind.
Down came the rain for 40 days.
And down came the rain 40 nights.
And when it stopped raining a rainbow appeared
And things for awhile were alright.
But it didn’t take long for strife to show up
Or trouble to make its return.
And God in His heaven said to himself,
“When will man ever learn?”
So He set down the rules for right and wrong;
He wrote the Commandments in stone.
But when Moses came down from the mountaintop
He heard only griping and groans.
Centuries passed, the bad with the good
It seemed like they never would learn
How often they’d sin and then they’d repent
When they had nowhere else to turn
So finally He sent them a Savior
A Savior from Heaven above
A Savior who’d right every wrong ever done
With a message of peace and of love.
A Savior who’d comfort the weary,
The poor, the sick and the lost
But what did he get for his trouble?
They nailed him up on the Cross.
Disputers dispute, believers believe.
To each his own as they say.
Five gets you ten the argument’s end
Won’t come ‘til the ending of days
But of the great names in the history books
Never forgotten or lost,
The one most often remembered
Is the name of the man on the cross.

The Law of Love
02:10
|
|||
She came into this country
Like many have before
Some were native to the land
Some just washed ashore
Some came fleeing poverty
Some came fleeing strife
All of them came looking
For a better way of life
Is it really a crime
Or the luck of the draw
That put her in a church today
Hounded by the law
There’s a greater law than man’s
In Heaven high above
If ‘Follow the law’ is what you say
What about the Law of Love?
We all came here from someplace
Somewhere back in time
Some came here legally
Some came on the sly
It all got mixed up long ago
In that big old melting pot
I guess that’s ancient history
That some of us forgot
Is it through your own virtue
Or the luck of the draw
That it’s her instead of you today
Hounded by the law
There’s a greater law than man’s
In Heaven high above
If ‘Follow the law’ is what you say
What about the Law of Love?
If ‘Follow the law’ is what you say
What about the law of love?

At Seven p.m. ‘cross Southern Airways

To Care of the Lord
Care of the Lord
Care of the Lord

Them no-good left-wingers kicked God outta school
They put fluoridated water in our swimming pools
Now they’re leading America on the road straight to Hell
And they voted to give back the Panama Canal

Care of the Lord
Please send your money
To Care of the Lord
Care of the Lord
Care of the Lord
Send all your money
To Care of the Lord
It’s a moral obligation to our Nation and Lord
To vote this November, I won’t say who for
But if you’re sick of them secular, humanist kooks
God’s a Republican and he lives in Dubuque
Care of the Lord
Care of the Lord
Please send your money
To Care of the Lord
Care of the Lord
Care of the Lord
Send all your money
To Care of the Lord
Send $25 dollars if the Spirit moves you
And I’ll send you a picture and an autograph too
And when you meet with St. Peter and he looks up your sins
Just show him my picture and you’re in like Flynn
Care of the Lord
Care of the Lord
Please send your money
To Care of the Lord
Care of the Lord
Care of the Lord
Pass the collection plate
To Care of the Lord
Send all your dollars
To Pat Robertson
Send all your money

Land Beyond Time
01:25
|
|||
There’s mountain in the distance
Someday I will climb
It’s said in ancient stories
That there’s a valley on the other side
And a river flows through the valley
And there’s rainbows in the sky
Where the Saints live forever
In a land beyond time
