Who Needs A Song
02:59
|
|||
Who needs a song, they’re on sale today
One for a penny and 12 for a dime
They won’t last long at prices like these
I’m almost giving them away
I’ve got happy and sad songs, right and wrong songs
Songs full of truth and lies
Songs to make you smile or forget for awhile
And songs to bring a tear to your eye
Nobody listens to songs anymore
Everyone’s wearing headphones
Everyone’s staring at smartphone screens
Walking through this world all alone
I’ve got happy and sad songs, right and wrong songs
Songs full of truth and lies
Songs to make you smile or forget for awhile
And songs to bring a tear to your eye
I took these songs to Nashville once
I passed them all around
I thought I was the cat’s meow
But take a look at me now
I’ve got happy and sad songs, right and wrong songs
Songs full of truth and lies
Songs to make you smile or forget for awhile
And songs to bring a tear to your eye

Tin Angel
02:45
|
|||
Do you remember when you were a girl
You were gonna grow up and conquer the world
There wasn’t a mountain too high to climb
Or a dream that wouldn’t come true in time
Now you’re sitting on a doorstep
In the cruelest part of town
Hoping your Tin Angel
Brings what you need around
What happened to that little girl
In your grade school photograph
The one that we remember
Who ran and played and laughed
You used to paint and write songs
And you played the violin
Now you’re living hand to mouth
With anyone who’ll take you in
Do you remember when you were a girl
You were gonna grow up and conquer the world
There wasn’t a mountain too high to climb
Or a dream that wouldn’t come true in time
Now you’re sitting on a doorstep
In the cruelest part of town
Hoping your Tin Angel
Brings what you need around

Where do they bury dreams when they die
There must be some place beneath the blue sky
Where the sun always shines and a river rolls by
Where do they bury dreams when they die
Where do you go when you need to cry
We all need a place when tears fill our eyes
To get over the pain til it passes by
Where do you go when you need to cry
A dream breaks your heart
When it comes to an end
It’s almost feels like
You lost an old friend
Where do they bury dreams when they die
Where are the bodies that get left behind
They’re drawing chalk lines at the scene of the crime
Where do they bury dreams when they die

Lily Of The Valley
02:37
|
|||
Lily of the Valley
Lily of the Valley
Come away with me
Leave these dark alleys
Lily of the Valley
You’re so young and pretty
Llly of the Valley
Get away from the city
Lily of the Valley
Isn’t it a pity
Lily of the Valley
Isn’t it a pity
Lily of the Valley
Isn’t it a pity
Lily of the Valley
Lily of the Valley
All your Dreams turn to dust
There’s no one left to trust
Lily of the Valley
You’re still young and pretty
Lily of the Valley
Get away from the city
Lily of the Valley
Isn’t it a pity
Lily of the Valley
Isn’t it a pity
Lily of the Valley
Isn’t it a pity
Lily of the Valley
Lily of the Valley
Tin angels never fly
Now they’re waving goodbye
Lily of the Valley
You’re still young and pretty
Lily of the Valley
Get away from the city
Lily of the Valley
Isn’t it a pity
Lily of the Valley
Isn’t it a pityLily of the Valley
Isn’t it a pity

The sky was dark and menacing
And in the gathering gloom
The Preacher was mending fences
The storm would be here soon
What’s lacking can’t be numbered
Nor the crooked made straight,
Then the sky began to rumble
As a pilgrim approached the gate
“I have travelled many years and miles”
The Pilgrim did declare
“I’ve searched the world for wisdom
I have looked everywhere”
“I have sailed across many Seas
And I’ve covered endless ground
Do you know of The Preacher
And where he can be found?”
A Hawk flew by as the Preacher spoke
And the Rain began to fall
“Time and death in the end
Are the enemies of all
“For life itself is meaningless
All must end the same
In the darkness of Eternity
And the silence of the grave
"Seek ye not the Preacher
His wisdom to commend
He’ll tell you that the wise man
And the fool share the same end
"It is better to be wise in the world
But the righteous have no claim
To any more than the sinner
Their end is all the same"
The Pilgrim eyed the Preacher
And sadly he did say
“I see you have no answers
So I’ll be on my way
"For I must find the Preacher
And take his words to heart”
Then lightning flashed across the sky
And the Pilgrim did depart

Caribbean Dream
03:17
|
|||
Way down in Havana where the gamblers used to go
And the Caribbean winds in the evening softly blow
I was on shore leave in the merchant marine
She was waiting tables looking like a gypsy queen
Ooh Lala how she loved me
Ooh Lala how she loved me
She wore a ruby necklace and a rose in her hair
I was drowning in her eyes, I didn’t have a prayer
She slipped me the key to a room just down the street
And later that night she slipped between the sheets
Ooh Lala how she loved me
Ooh Lala how she loved me
But everything in this world
Isn’t always what it seems
One of these days you might find yourself
Waking from a dream
I remember every kiss til we fell asleep at dawn
Later when I woke that morning she was already gone
I thought it might have been a dream and all in my head
’Til I saw that red rose laying on the bed
Ooh Lala how she loved me
Ooh Lala how she loved me

Nobody Knows
02:37
|
|||
Nobody knows where Lily went
And nobody seems to care
The most anyone will say about her
Is she just disappeared
And if you ask about her
You’ll likely get blank stares
Cause nobody knows where Lily went
And nobody seems to care
How can somebody live in a town like this for 15 years
And everybody acts as if she was never here
Ain’t no wonder why anyone would go
Chasing dreams that disappear with the wind
Down dusty dirt roads
They don’t remember Lily
At the corner Stop ’N Go
Don’t ask how long she’s been gone
Cause nobody knows
Don’t ask where she was headed
Or why she decided to go
Cause all that you’ll find out here
Is nobody knows
How can somebody live in a town like this for 15 years
And everybody acts as if she was never here
Ain’t no wonder why anyone would go
Chasing dreams that disappear with the wind
Down dusty dirt roads
Nobody knows where Lily went
And nobody seems to care

The Way To Heaven
04:18
|
|||
Does anybody know the way to Heaven
I haven’t seen a sign on the highway
I can’t find it on a map or any smart-phone-app
But I’m still hoping to win my wings one day
They say its hard for a rich man to get to Heaven
Well, I ain’t got a dollar to my name
They say Jesus hung around with sinners
Well I’ve done plenty of sinning in my day
Does anybody know the way to Heaven
I haven’t seen a sign on the highway
I can’t find it on a map or any smart-phone-app
But I’m still hoping to win my wings one day
They say Jesus talked a lot while he was with us
He said love your neighbor and your enemy too
People remember the part about their neighbor
But the second part, well that’s a little bit harder to do
Does anybody know the way to Heaven
I haven’t seen a sign on the highway
I can’t find it on a map or any smart-phone-app
But I’m still hoping to win my wings one day
You know your preacher ain’t gonna get you to heaven
I wouldn’t believe a word of what he says
So I’ll just keep on talking to My Savior Jesus
And listen real good with my heart instead
Does anybody know the way to Heaven
I haven’t seen a sign on the highway
I can’t find it on a map or any smart-phone-app
But I’m still hoping to win my wings one day

Summer Song
03:46
|
|||
Watching you sailing in the sun
Your hair blowing in the wind
Tonight we'll wish upon a star
That summer will never end
Sailing a catamaran
Down by Monterey
And if the clouds come by again
Tomorrow’s another day
And as the sun goes down
And the moon comes up
It feels just like a dream
What could be better tonight
Than only you and me
Spending all day on the beach
With a beautiful sky above
We couldn’t pick a better place
Than this to fall in love
Sailing a catamaran
Down by Monterey
And if the clouds come by again
Tomorrow’s another day
And as the sun goes down
And the moon comes up
It feels just like a dream
What could be better tonight
Than only you and me
Sipping drinks as the sun goes down
Moonlight on the sea
Watching the stars in the sky tonight
In a nighttime Summer breeze
Sailing a catamaran
Down by Monterey
And if the clouds come by again
Tomorrow’s another day
And as the sun goes down
And the moon comes up
It feels just like a dream
What could be better tonight
Than only you and me

Old Violin
03:43
|
|||
He was sweeping the pawn shop floor
It was almost closing time
When the bell above the door rang
And she came in
She was worn and tired looking
Like she’d seen much better days
“What would you take,” she asked
For that Old Violin”
He could see she’d been a beauty
Back in her younger days
But time and trouble
Take their toll on all
And this is where the dreams end up
When the good times fade away
In pawn shop windows
Or hanging on the wall
But dreams are hard to kill
They don’t die easily
They can almost be forgotten
And still come back in your sleep
The shopkeeper looked at the Old Violin
Hanging on the wall
Took it down
And then he scratched his chin
Maybe he saw a dream was hiding
Behind her sad, blue eyes
For he tore the ticket
Off that Old Violin
“Why don’t you just take it
And we’ll call it a loan
Pay me back
Whenever you can”
She thanked him for his kindness
And when she walked out the door
She left with more
Than that Old Violin
But dreams are hard to kill
They don’t die easily
They can almost be forgotten
And still come back in your sleep
