The sky was dark and menacing
And in the gathering gloom
The Preacher was mending fences
The storm would be here soon

What’s lacking can’t be numbered
Nor the crooked made straight,
Then the sky began to rumble
As a pilgrim approached the gate

“I have travelled many years and miles”
The Pilgrim did declare
“I’ve searched the world for wisdom
I have looked everywhere”

“I have sailed across many Seas
And I’ve covered endless ground
Do you know of The Preacher
And where he can be found?”

A Hawk flew by as the Preacher spoke
And the Rain began to fall
“Time and death in the end
Are the enemies of all

“For life itself is meaningless
All must end the same
In the darkness of Eternity
And the silence of the grave

"Seek ye not the Preacher
His wisdom to commend
He’ll tell you that the wise man
And the fool share the same end

"It is better to be wise in the world
But the righteous have no claim
To any more than the sinner
Their end is all the same"

The Pilgrim eyed the Preacher
And sadly he did say
“I see you have no answers
So I’ll be on my way

"For I must find the Preacher
And take his words to heart”
Then lightning flashed across the sky
And the Pilgrim did depart
